A CLOSER LOOK
What we check in the connection.
The address, certificate and validity period need to align. A browser padlock alone does not explain the whole configuration.
- 01DomainThe correct address
- 02CertificateA trusted chain
- 03MatchHostname coverage
- 04ValidityDays until expiry
Validity and issuer
Reports show available issuer and validity information. A valid date range is not enough by itself: the trust chain must be accepted and the configuration must match the visitor’s URL.
Domain matching
The certificate must cover the hostname in use. Apex, www and subdomains may have different configurations. For a mismatch, check the virtual host certificate, SNI settings and final redirect destination.
Days until expiry
Remaining days help plan renewal. Verify that automatic renewal actually works and services use the new certificate afterwards. Periodic checks remain useful even when hosting includes automation.
SSL is part of a bigger picture
HTTPS protects information in transit. It does not by itself prove that an application is vulnerability-free or its content trustworthy. Review certificates alongside security headers and other technical findings.
